Q: How can I tell if my solar system is working?

A: If there is a green light on your inverter, you are producing energy.  Monitoring is the best way to keep accurate tabs on your system’s performance.  Your SCE bill only reflects the net generation of your system, meaning the difference between what you consume, and what you use.  It is always shown in consumption.  So, if you see negative numbers you are actually producing more energy than you are using.

If you see a red light on your inverter, your system is likely not producing, the inverter may be displaying an error code. Please take note of that code and call the office.

The system does not produce energy during hours of darkness. If you see a red light after dark, check the inverter again in daylight to make sure it returns to green..

Your system will continue to produce during rainy/overcast weather, though it will be drastically reduced.

Q: My inverter is hot.

A: Inverters will produce heat, and get hot to the touch.  If your inverter is in direct sunlight you may want to consider planting a tree, or building a shade structure around it to keep it shaded.

If you see smoke or sparks, trip the solar breaker, and call the fire department immediately.

Q: My inverter is making a buzzing noise.

A: Your inverter is equipped with an internal fan, this could be what you are hearing. If it’s a low buzz or slight roar, it is okay.  If it’s very loud or more of a ringing sound, please call us to investigate.

Q: My inverter is chirping.

A: Inverters don’t have any warning sounds; the chirping is likely coming from a smoke or carbon monoxide detector.

Q: I hear noise on my roof.

A: If your system is brand new there will be some settling noise for a week or so, especially if there are large swings in temperature. If it’s a scratching or rustling sound, you could have birds nesting under your panels. If this is the case, we can install a “bird guard”.

Q: Do you install on Mobile Homes?

A: Yes, but the home must be on a permanent foundation.  The permitting process costs a bit more and takes more time than standard housing.  If you have a mobile home, it’s best to call us to go over personally.

Q: Do you install in cities outside the Coachella Valley?

A: Typically, we try to install within the valley and the high desert however we will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Are your Panels really purple?

A: No but they are HOT, most panels are black with a slight blue hue.

Q: Who’s playing tonight, and can I make reservations?

A: Perhaps you are trying to reach The Purple Room, similar name, different business.

We do sponsor a variety of bands for charitable events however, so make sure to visit our event page for future gigs.

Q: Do you install/repair Solar Thermal?

A: No, we do not. Please Call John Hosman at 760-333-1889, tell him HPE sent you.

Q: Do you install solar on RVs?

A: Yes, please call the office with specific questions.

Q: Do you sell solar generators?

A: Yes, please call the office with specific questions.

Q: Is there free solar?

A: Grid Alternatives is a program for those who would otherwise not have access, www.gridalternatives.org. We do see a lot of claims that solar is free but that is mostly a play on the fact that once your system is “paid for” through savings, the energy is then free.

Q: I have read that it is possible to monitor each SunPower panels’ production. How do I do that?

A: Easy and quick answer, the technology is there, but it’s not ready for consumers yet.  Only dealers have the ability to monitor individual panels, on AC systems.  For more information on the different types of panels please check out the SOLAR 101section of our website.

Q: My system doesn’t have an inverter, but I am seeing a red light on my SunPower monitoring box, does that mean my system isn’t producing?

A: Your system is likely operating just fine.  The SunPower monitoring uses two forms of communication to stay online. The red light simply means that one of the connections is down.
