Only One U.S. County Remains COVID-Free After 8 Months of Pandemic

Only one county in the United States still has zero reported cases of COVID-19 in mid-November, after more than eight months of the pandemic, while much of the country including California is returning to lockdowns and curfews for the holidays

Coronavirus cases are trending upwards and have infected Americans in all but one locality:

Loving County, Texas is the only one county in the United States still with zero reported cases of COVID-19 in mid-November.

It’s located on the Texas-New Mexico border east of El Paso.

Mentone, TX in Loving County seems to have more trucks than people.

With a population of 169 people, according to the most recent U.S. Census numbers, Loving County, Texas, is the lone municipality never to record a single positive case of coronavirus.

Loving County’s 169 residents are reported to have the highest per-capita income in the US of $89,471. Mentone has a population of 15 people. The high income level in the sparsely populated county is due to the sub surface oil and gas reserves. Much of Loving County’s oil wealth began during the oil boom of the late 1920’s – 1930’s. The county’s natural gas production came later in the 1970’s. Loving County is the second-least populous in the U.S., behind Hawaii’s Kalawao County, but the least populated in the lower 48 states.

Since tracking began, Loving County residents have done just eight COVID-19 tests.
