Daylight saving time starts Sunday March 12th

CALIFORNIA — It’s almost time for California residents to “spring forward” for daylight saving time, but will it be for the last time?

BE PREPARED

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 12. That means later sunsets and more time at the end of the day to enjoy outdoor activities. Only two states — Hawaii and most of Arizona — have opted out of the Uniform Time Act of 1966, which mandated daylight saving time.

In 2018, California voters cast ballots in favor of Proposition 7, which would end time changes in the Golden State. Still, state lawmakers have failed to legislate per the voter’s wishes, according to California Assemblyman Steven Choi, (R-Irvine). “Very surprisingly, it got stuck at the Senate level,” Choi told ABC7 News in November.

Although “springing forward” is often associated with the beginning of spring, the vernal equinox doesn’t occur until Monday, March 20. Pending federal legislation, daylight saving time ends this year on Sunday, Nov. 5.
