Men’s Tennis Aces Top Spot in Community College Standings

PALM DESERT (February 27, 2023) – College of the Desert’s undefeated Men’s Tennis team is the No. 1 Junior College squad in Southern California, according to the latest rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The team is coming off its 43rd straight Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) win on February 21 against the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut. The 9-0 win was the team’s second victorious 9-0 match this season.

“The Roadrunners continue to dominate in men’s tennis this season,” Head Coach Guy Fritz said. “This is an exciting time for these players, who have an incredibly strong mindset and a hunger for the state championship.”

The fiery start to the season comes on the heels of an impressive 2022 season in which the team won the SoCal Regional Final and took its 16th California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship. Several individual players and doubles teams also participated deep into their respective State Championship brackets.

“We are extremely proud of these athletes and their representation of College of the Desert,” said Superintendent/President Martha Garcia, Ed.D. “We look forward to seeing their accomplishments this season and will be cheering them on along the way.”

The team plays again at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, on the road against Mt. San Jacinto, a conference match-up.
