Time To Fall Back Again Coachella Valley

Time To Fall Back Again Coachella Valley

COACHELLA VALLEY, CA

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov 7th, is that true? Didn’t Californians agree to stay on Daylight Saving Time Permanently?

Daylight Saving Time Begins, Sunday, Nov 7th at 2am

If you’re a Californian, you may be asking yourself, “Wait, why are we still doing that?”

Did we not vote to approve Proposition 7 back in 2018, which proposed to ditch the switch altogether in California?

But here we are three years later and Californians are preparing to fall back an hour on Sunday, Nov. 7.

Why is this the Case?

While 60% of voters backed that measure, it was just the first step needed to make the change.

Under Prop 7 , the California Legislature still would need to approve the measure to keep a permanent state daylight saving time. A two-thirds vote would be required but the California Legislature has still not acted on Prop 7.

Further, even if the California Legislature ever does approve the measure, the U.S Congress would have to approve the change as,well.

In 1966, the Uniform Time Act was enacted and it stipulates that the federal government must approve any permanent switch to daylight saving time. But states are allowed to stay on daylight standard time, as is the case with Hawaii and most of Arizona.

With efforts stalled both in the state’s Legislature and in the U.S. Congress, Californians will be “falling back” and “springing foward”, indefinitely.

Remember, Daylight Saving Time concludes at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, when the clock will “fall back” one hour and in theory we get one extra hour of sleep.
