The Amazing is More Amazing at this Seasons Pageant of The Masters!

The Amazing is More Amazing at this Seasons Pageant of The Masters!

By Françoise Rhodes – Founder of Artifacts & Arts Across America, Inc., – Host of Traveling With Françoise Television & Radio

I say this every year to family, friends and fans, “Go see the Pageant of the Masters.”  First off who doesn’t want to spend a few days in Laguna Beach? Second, the Pageant of the Masters first opened in 1932, and has since evolved into a two month spectacle where art comes to life.

Now through August 31, 2019, the show is located on the grounds of the Festival of the Arts, steps away from downtown Laguna Beach. Festival goers will enjoy art in a variety of forms, live entertainment, dine, relax at the wine bar, and can let the kids go wild with hands-on education stations and more.

This year’s theme for the Pageant is ‘The Time Machine’, taking audiences around the globe and into the past, present, and future in search of great art and amazing stories. Taking its cues from science fiction and steampunk fantasies, The Time Machine will be a ticket to thrills, laughter, beautiful music and extraordinary living art under the stars.

Realizing that often the audience can’t tell the actors from the painting the Pageant now brings to the audience a new usage of technology and videos, narration, live action and behind the scene peeks that highlight how masterful the concept really is.  Known for its tableaux vivants or “living pictures” in which classical and contemporary works of art are recreated by real people who are made to look nearly identical to the originals through the clever application of costumes, makeup, headdresses, lighting, props, and backdrops, however it was the addition of more tableau’s demonstrating the actors taking their place and how the use of lighting transforms these works into art that wowed the audience.

For my exclusive behind the scenes look at the making of a show, watch the video below.  Trust me, seeing this won’t ruin anything, in fact it will make your experience even better!

When going to the Festival of the Arts and Pageant of the Masters here are a few things to remember.

* The Pageant runs nightly (rain or shine) through August 31, 2019.

*  The Festival ticket allows you on the grounds but not to the Pageant.

*  A Pageant ticket gives you entry to both.

*  Paid parking is available on the street and in lots across the street from the Festival, but is often full at night.  Trolley’s run throughout the area so check the Festival web site for more info.

*  There are good restaurants on the Festival grounds, however downtown is right next door and you can walk to a variety of restaurants, shops, galleries and so on.

*  The Pageant begins at 8:30 pm and ends around 10:20 pm, plan accordingly if you are driving.

*  If your seats are towards the back take binoculars so you can try to see who the actors are.  They do rent binoculars on site.

*  Check the weather, you’ll be close to the ocean and the nights can get chilly.
