Happening This Weekend at The Indian Wells Tennis Gardens – The 16th Annual Indian Wells Arts Festival, March 30, 31 & April 1

Spend Easter weekend perusing thousands of one-of-kind works of art from 200 of the top artists from around the world and across the nation at the 16 annual Indian Wells Arts Festival. Fun for the whole family awaits with plenty of free activities, artist demonstrations, live music and entertainment, a special Saturday and Easter Sunday “Eggs + Champagne in the Garden” brunch menu ‘till noon, savory spirits and mimosas at the Champagne Circle Bar, and a Gourmet MarketPlace filled with original artisan fare.

Ranked as a Top 50 fine art festival, upwards of 10,000 festival-goers are expected descend on the 3-day event held at the luxurious Indian Wells Tennis Garden

Delivering a stunning showcase of art in 31 mediums and categories ranging from painting, sculpture, jewelry, wearable-art fashion, photography and ceramics, the festival is a prime source of acquisition forserious buyers and collectors of all budgets. Ranked as a Top 50 fine art festival, upwards of 10,000 festival-goers are expected descend on the 3-day event held at the luxurious Indian Wells Tennis Garden, some from as far abroad as Germany and Canada, and others as day-trippers and weekend-trekkers from San Diego and Los Angeles.

With artists traveling from as far as Japan, France and Uganda to showcase their work amidst the beautiful backdrop of the desert in full springtime bloom, juried artists at the show represent more than 28 countries from around the world and 20 states across the nation, whose works have been exhibited at over 60 major museums and art institutions including the Smithsonian, the U.S. Department of the Interior Art Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, and Japan’s Kyoto Museum. The diversity of art and ​its origin of perspective shown at the festival creates a unique opportunity to connect with artists and acquire museum-caliber work at an affordable price that is often out of reach on the other side of the world or exclusive to galleries.

Adding to the experience are artist demonstrations in large-scale stone sculpture from Yucca Valley father and son artists, David and Christopher Falossi. David’s sculptures can be found in the collections of Brea Art in Public Places, the Santa Barbara Zoo, and have been catalogued by the Smithsonian. Transforming sand into beautiful glass art is glassblower Bruce Freund. Heating his portable furnace to reach temperatures of 2100 degrees and higher, Bruce shares the secrets of the trade dating back to the Middle to the Late Bronze Age, and established as a fine art by the Roman Empire.

Weaving colorful tapestries on his great-grandfather’s wooden pedal loom, award-winning textile artist Antonio Mendoza will demonstrate the master craftsmanship passed down from generations in his family as he weaves designs using an ancient 2000 year-old Zapotec Indian technique. Antonio’s work can be seen as a part of a permanent collection at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum.After being inspired by artist demonstrations, attendees are invited to express their own creativity with free on-site art activities including pottery making with Old Artisan Studio, muraling, a commemorative photo booth, a kid’s palette-knife painting class and more.

Foodies will find their palates pleased at the Gourmet MarketPlace with artisan vendors including Indiana-based Burton’s Maplewood Farm 100% Pure Maple Syrup featuring rum, bourbon and brandy barrel-aged syrup infusions.

Coachella Valley’s Wildest Greens health-minded products such as honey and Hawaiian Red Turmeric root flown in weekly from their own Secret Beach Organics farm in Kauai, while Pelham’s Paperie presents hand-sewn fabric note cards. Minnesota-based HEPPS Salt Co.’s all-natural gourmet sea-salt infusions include Black and White Truffle, #Truffle, Sriracha, and Thai Ginger, and Carlsbad’s Terra Verde Foods returns with their award-winning Hot Sauces, marmalades/preserves, sauces, salad dressings and marinades, in addition to the other fabulous vendors featuring their fine crafts.

Strengthening communities through art, each year the festival incorporates local charities as Festival Partners to exhibit at the show and donates to their art scholarship funds. Participating organizations this year include the Coachella Valley Youth Ensemble Program, Create Center for the Arts Palm Desert, Cathedral City High School’s DATA Digital Imaging Apple Distinguished Program, Desert Arc, Old TownArtisan Studio, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation, and SafeHouse of the Desert. Presented by the City of Indian Wells, the 16th annual Indian Wells Arts Festival is hosted by the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and held on the venue’s Grass Concourse (Enter from Washington Street at Via Sevilla,between Highway 111 and Fred Waring Drive, Indian Wells, California), open Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 1, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children are free to the event, adults $13. Free parking and valet available.
