St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes has been elevated to celebrity status. St. Jude is not the celebrity per se, but the vehicle of which Danny Thomas used to pursue his dreams as an actor and realize his dream for helping children with serious illnesses from all over the world.
That dream materialized into St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Yet where St. Jude is involved there is no shortage of celebrity’s and everyday people committed to funding this hospital that centers itself on helping children with life threatening diseases. Last night at the JW Marriot Desert Springs in Palm Desert was a pure example of how people come together to raise money for those less fortunate.
With star studded talent and a crowd of patrons truly dedicated to St. Jude, this benefit was no lost cause.
Patrick Warburton’s St. Jude Jam Session brought to our humble valley a wonderful mixture of highly talented musicians for a delightful evening of good food and classic rock n’ roll. There were people in attendance from all over the United States, each one totally dedicated to raising money for the children’s hospital. Every person humble and friendly all touted their love and commitment to supporting St. Jude.
For everyone the music was the highlighted treat; a thank you if you will, for so many generous donations. Kim Carnes sang some her more famous songs with the voice and clarity she did way back when.
The fun didn’t stop there; the evening was a succession of one talented artist after another that had the crowd dancing with joy. Andy Childs, leader of the band Sixwire the musical director for the event, produced his fourth annual jam session with rock n rollers of Hall of Fame descent.
The audience did not have time to sit down as the show produced one Hall of Famer after another Alice Cooper, Robbie Krieger of The Doors, Steve Cropper of Booker T and the MGs, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Don Felder, formerly of The Eagles, and Danny Seraphine, the original drummer for Chicago wound up the evening in stellar fashion with hits from each of the bands they played with.
The vocals were astounding and the musical prowess of each headliner gave a performance that brought the house down in the most delightful way. It was a great night, for a great cause with the greatest of people and talent.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is always taking donations to further the study and treatment of cancer and rare diseases that affecting our children every day. The buck doesn’t have to stop at last night’s event. Anyone can go onto StJude.org and donate this minute. It’s a charitable donation you can feel proud about, with the knowledge you are helping children to live long, productive lives.
