In celebration of International Housekeepers Week, September 14 – 20, 2014, area housekeeping staff will compete in the first ever Coachella Valley Housekeeping Olympics on Wednesday, September 10, at Spa Resort Casino in Downtown Palm Springs.

The competition pits teams of area housekeepers against each other as they compete in multiple obstacle course challenges including, a bed making and vacuum cleaner race, buffer and toilet paper toss, balloon sweep, general manager toilet paper wrap, and others.   The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with a welcome, explanation of the contest and viewing of the brackets.

The event is designed to celebrate the work of hotel and hospital housekeepers and foster friendships among housekeepers from area businesses. National Housekeepers Week was first recognized in 1981. Currently thousands of hotels, motels, resorts, and other businesses participate across the U.S. Regardless of where it is celebrated, International Housekeepers Week can motivate employees by making them feel appreciated.

“I am looking forward to an exciting day of friendly competition for the housekeepers, property managers and spectators alike,” said Michael Potts, Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, Director of Sales and Event Organizer.  “It’s great to see the pride our housekeepers have in their jobs.  Further, I look forward to watching the friendly rivalries that are sure to develop among the teams.”

Judges will include elected officials, chamber of commerce executives, Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Tribal Council Members and other judges to be announced.

“As one of the sponsorof Palm Springs Housekeeping Olympics, Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa and Spa Resort Casino is looking forward to hosting this first annual event at Spa Resort Casino,” said C.J. Graham, Chief Operating Officer.  “It’s a great way to show our appreciation for hospitality team members who don’t always get the recognition they deserve.”

The event culminates with an awards presentation for participants.  Team awards will be distributed for first, second and third places.  A perpetual trophy will be given to the winning team, and prizes will be awarded to all
