The Spinners: Falling in love all over again!

It was a balmy night in February. When most of the country is bracing against the cold, Palm Springs is in full swing. It was a weekend of many spectacular events; from Modernism week to the Tour de Palm Springs bicycle race downtown. Droves of people were out and about. Many of them made their way to the Spa Casino to see a free outdoor concert; part of a four part series The Spa is offering to our community. Valentine’s Day never tasted this sweet as The Spinners were here to put on a mind blowing show.

For the most part it was an older crowd. The Spinners were very popular in the 60’smand 70’s, pumping out soulful and melodic tunes that are still cherished today. They produced many hits with their unique style of voice ranges and a beat that makes you want to get up and dance.

People wonder if it’s still the original band after so many years; the answer is yes and no. Yes there are two remaining founding members and the other three are truly acceptable replacements. The sound they created with an ensemble of gifted musicians was spot on.

True to form from the days with Motown, the singers were synchronized in dance moves, encouraging the audience to join the show. Everybody was singing favorites like, Could it be I’m falling in love; I’ll be there and many more. The energy was high by the end of the concert everyone was on their feet clapping and dancing. As in most shows seen at local casinos, they played a compilation of a lot of hits. These melodies changed from one into another with ease; a true representation of the band we knew then and still love now.

It was exciting to hear this band that has been loved by countless people for many, many years.

On March 14, 2015, the Spa casino will end its four parts, free outdoor music event with Smash Mouth. Mark it on your calendar! Get there early and bring a chair to sit in. Only in the Coachella Valley do we have so many options for entertainment. The show starts at 7pm and it’s sure to be a great one!
