Notable favorire’s Mama Gina’s, Thai Smile, along with many other food establishments that line El Paseo were not serving food you could consume on their premises, or participating in today’s protest.
Restaurants like Mitch’s on El Paseo took to Facebook, writing they have no affiliation with the protesters and are following the California state order.

Palm Desert has its own code compliance team but, in a statement, the city says, “If a business chooses to operate in violation of public health orders, their information is forwarded to the Riverside County Council and county public health officer.”
The city also says they’ve already sent in information to the county, but they could not specify which businesses were reported due to legal reasons.
Businesses, that are currently complying with the new order list health concerns, financial costs, risk of business violations, legal issues with county, employees, patrons etc., insurance cancelation or voided coverage, valuable alcohol licenses revoked or threatened, fines and health department inspectors along with risks of public ridcule among other reasons to just serve takeout or delivery or not at all.
