Happening Now – Palm Desert, CA – El Paseo Drive – Coachella Valley, Protesters Descend on the Street, Some Restaurants Stay Open In Defiance.

Hundreds marched up and down El Paseo, with hand made signs, playing music, and waving flags, along with vehicles driving in protest against the latest shutdown restrictions in the new order.

As seen in the Video Armando‘s Bar and Grill is serving customers on their patio. They say the city of Palm Desert has not reached out to them since the new order took effect Midnight on Sunday.

“The City is very welcome to come and talk to us, and tell us what they expect from us and we’d be glad to do it,” said Armando Alvarez, owner of Armando’s.

Other Restaurant’s such as The Fix, and  Piero’s Pizzavino are seen open as well in the video. Guillermo Restaurant, another Valley Favorite along El Paseo, shared with us on Air they are planning to open tomorrow.

We were told that Cactus Jacks, although not on El Paseo, but still in Palm Desert was open and currently serving. Kitchen 86 had workers cheering the Protesters on as were many of the merchants along the El Paseo strip as they passed by.

Notable favorire’s Mama Gina’s, Thai Smile, along with many other food establishments that line El Paseo were not serving food you could consume on their premises, or participating in today’s protest.

Restaurants like Mitch’s on El Paseo took to Facebook, writing they have no affiliation with the protesters and are following the California state order.

Starbucks closed at 2pm, earlier than normal for their coffee and food takeout on El Paseo today and posted it on their front door.

Palm Desert has its own code compliance team but, in a statement, the city says, “If a business chooses to operate in violation of public health orders, their information is forwarded to the Riverside County Council and county public health officer.”

The city also says they’ve already sent in information to the county, but they could not specify which businesses were reported due to legal reasons.

Businesses, that are currently complying with the new order list health concerns, financial costs, risk of business violations, legal issues with county, employees, patrons etc., insurance cancelation or voided coverage, valuable alcohol licenses revoked or threatened, fines and health department inspectors along with risks of public ridcule among other reasons to just serve takeout or delivery or not at all.
