Rock ’n’ Roll High School has nothing on Penny Unniversity. The deliberate error in spelling entices the perpetual spellchecker to take a double-take. Upon second glance the listener is all ears.
Our ears will be filled with Penny U. as they perform at the 1st Annual Bottle Share sponsored by Whole Foods Market Palm Desert on Friday 2/27/15 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at the Empire Polo Club as part of the 4th Annual Rhythm Wine & Brews Experience VIP package.

CoachellaValley.com reached out to Penny U. guitarist & vocalist Michael Gagliardi to talk all things Penny U & RWBE. Gagliardi shared his appreciation of the RWBE. “We have been fortunate to have been chosen four years in a row by Empire Music Ventures to represent the local talent of the Coachella Valley.
The staff of The Empire Polo Grounds & owner Alex Haagen have been so gracious and friendly. It’s an event where people have freedom & space to walk the beautiful grounds & enjoy wine & craft beers under the gorgeous Coachella Valley sunshine. I believe that is why they call it an ‘experience’”.
Gagliardi hopes to be included in subsequent shows. “We hope they feel compelled to have us return in the future because this is our home, backyard & we seem to be a good match with the wine culture. We even have a song entitled “Over a Glass of Wine” which features multi-platinum producer Ronnie King on piano. When this event is 20 years old it will be cool to look back & say we played a small part in its foundation”.
The groundwork of Penny U. envelopes many diverse elements.
“Our styles have crossed the lines of Jazz/Latin/Fusion/Global/Cinematic/Ambient & even a Country instrumental on our last album. There is just too much creativity to settle for one genre. It really reflects our band name which is a slang term for 18th Century London coffee houses where for a penny you got a coffee & were able to mingle and share conversation with scholars who would spend their time sharing knowledge & current events. We traverse interesting people, places & things in our music wherever that may originate from”.

Penny Unniversity is Gagliardi on guitar, vocals & synthesizer, Ted Walker on both the bass & fretless bass, Rene Almodovar on percussion, Jack LeCompte on drums & Bobbi Furgo on keyboards.
Their albums include “Penny Unniversity”, “Over A Glass of Wine”, “Sound Tapestry” & will be recording their fourth album in March entitled “The Paradise Skies”. They can be purchased via iTunes.
Entrance to the 1st Annual Bottle Share and Kick-Off Party is included in the VIP package. Please bring a 22 oz. or 750 ml. of quality beer to share with attendees.
The location is the Empire Polo Club 50725 Monroe St. Indio, CA 92201. Parking will be located on Monroe Street south of Avenue 50, enter at Gate ‘K’.
