Parade – Pirates – Planes and Fun at Borrego Days Desert Festival 2019

By Françoise Rhodes

Counting 54 years and going strong, the Borrego Springs seasonal opening event is a “don’t miss” fun-fest! Far from your average hometown parade, prepare to be wowed as the 54th Annual Borrego Days Desert Festival kicks off with pre-parade activities beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, October 19. After the national anthem look to the skies for the traditional flyover featuring a variety of aircraft, all before the ground parade begins at 10 AM.   After the flyover all eyes are on Palm Canyon Drive as a multitude of parade entries including marching bands, cheer squads, equestrians and classic cars make their way through downtown Borrego Springs to and around the beloved Christmas Circle.

Following the parade, the excitement continues at Christmas Circle with continuous live music offering multiply acts including headliner Sara Petite, a kid’s zone, beer garden, and rows of unique booths offering a variety of handmade goods, beautiful artwork, crafts and delicious food from the ever popular food trucks.  Larger than ever this season is the Pirate Camp, fun for children and adults alike.  Something new for auto enthusiasts is the Car Show at The Mall, offering more room for spectators to ogle and mingle around these beautiful automobiles.

The festival is free with an abundance of free parking near Christmas Circle and on the parade route.

This year’s theme ‘Bloom in Borrego’ brings awareness and pays homage to the beauty of Borrego Springs and the surrounding 600,000 acre Anza- Borrego Desert State Park. In support of the park don’t miss Pints 4 the Park on Saturday.

From aircraft to elaborate floats, marching bands, classic cars and desert pirates —Borrego Days Desert Festival is truly the only place you can see it all so make  it a weekend to remember with family and friends at the 54th Annual Borrego Days Desert Festival – Bloom in Borrego!
