PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES NEW SYMPOSIUM “THE POWER OF WORDS: BOOK TO SCREEN”

The 26th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will host a one-day symposium “The Power of Words: Book to Screen” curated by Barbara Keller and Susan Rosser. The event will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Hilton Palm Springs. During the event, authors will be joined by producers, stars, and screenwriters in sessions moderated by well-known film and literary critics, and other distinguished leaders.

“Book to Screen” is will kick-off with a morning keynote session with Chaz Ebert and end with a conversation with Still Alice author Lisa Genova and producer Elizabeth Gelfand Stearns. The day will consist of four sessions with expected participants to include Amy Albany (author, Low Down), Albert Berger (producer, Low Down, Cold Mountain, Little Children), Mark Bowden (author, Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War), Ken Nolan (screenwriter, Black Hawk Down), Kaui Hart Hemmings (author/actress, The Descendants, The Possibilities), Michael Michaud (author Sal Mineo: A Biography), Val Lauren (actor, Sal), Richard C. Morais (author, The Hundred-Foot Journey) and others. Moderators of the event include Peter Bart (Variety), Anne Thompson (IndieWire), and Barbara Boyle (Professor, Associate Dean, Entrepreneurial Activities & Special Initiatives, UCLA School of Theater Film and Television).

A “Book to Screen” pass provides an individual full access to all symposium panels, discussions, keynote events, and screenings. Select films from the program will screen during the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 7th. Books will be available for purchase at a Barnes & Noble pop-up “store” at the venue. Authors will be available for a short period of time after each session to sign books. All Benefactor and Concierge pass holders for the 2015 Palm Springs International Film Festival will have access to this symposium at no charge with a confirmed RSVP. During the month of December, the Barnes & Noble in Palm Desert will feature a special section of “Book to Screen” authors and films.
