Palm Desert Aquatic Center Invites Residents to Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend, and to Meet Olympic Champions at 3rd Annual “Swim to Win” Event

The Palm Desert Aquatic Center (PDAC), a one-of-its-kind water park in the Coachella Valley, has a special event planned for this Memorial Day Weekend in which attendees can meet and swim with Olympic Champions, get autographs and photos, and more, while also participating in free swim lessons. “Swim to Win” takes place on May 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and reservations to attend are required by visiting PDAC prior to the event.

“Swim to Win” is an annual event conceptualized by Steven Little, owner of CLARO Pools and founder of the Swim to Win Foundation. This year’s Olympic Champions supporting the event are Janet Evans (U.S. Olympic multiple gold and silver medalist in 1988 and 1992), Rowdy Gaines (three-time U.S. Olympic gold medalist in 1984), Aaron Peirsol (a three-time Olympian and seven-time Olympic medalist), Jason Lezak (four-time Olympic gold medalist), Amanda Beard (seven-time Olympic medalist.), and others. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Olympic medalists and to get signed autographs.

The fun-filled day focuses on pool safety while having fun. Rowdy Gaines, Janet Evans and the other medalists will provide swim lessons while teaching basic water safety. Stroke clinics will also be offered, and regular pool activities will be open, including a water play park for younger children, water slides and diving boards. A concession stand is open throughout the event with hot dogs, BBQ burgers pizza, nachos, and traditional snacks (bringing outside food and drinks into the Aquatic Center is not allowed).

Following “Swim to Win” on Saturday, PDAC will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, with all water play areas, slides, diving boards and pools open through the Memorial holiday. Admission is $4.00 for Palm Desert residents ages 13 to 59, and $6 for non-residents; $3.00 for Palm Desert residents ages 6 to 12 years and 60 years and older, and $4.50 for non-residents; and for juniors ages 2 to 5 years $2.50, and non-residents $3.75. There are also 25-visit punch cards and monthly passes available.

For more information about “Swim to Win” visit www.SwimToWin.comwww.pdpool.com, or call (760) 565-7467. The event is sponsored by CLARO Pools, FG Creative, National Swimming Pool Foundation, Pentair, Step into Swim, USA Swimming, and USA Swimming Foundation.

Daily admission to PDAC is $2.50 to $4, depending on age, for Palm Desert residents with I.D.; or $3.75 to $6 for non-residents. Pricing remains the same for the 4th of July celebration. While pools are monitored by trained lifeguards, children 6 years and younger must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult and must have an adult in the water if they are not swimmers.

Notably, PDAC is water and energy efficient, while also recently reducing irrigation and eliminating reseeding to address current drought concerns.  All or part of the   8-acre facility can be rented for private parties, corporate events, swimming competitions, and other special occasions. PDAC is located behind Palm Desert Civic Center Park at 73751 Magnesia Falls Drive, and is owned by the City of Palm Desert and operated by Family YMCA of the Desert.  For more information visit www.PDPool.com or call (760) 565-7467.
