Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital becomes sponsor of Humana Challenge Kids’ Day on Jan. 25

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital announced a partnership with the 2015 Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation that will enhance its already prominent presence in the Coachella Valley. The noted children’s hospital will sponsor the tournament’s always-popular “Kids’ Day.”

The tournament, now in its 56th year, returns to La Quinta Jan. 19-25, and is a 72-hole event featuring 156 professionals at the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST (host course), the Jack Nicklaus Private Course at PGA WEST and La Quinta Country Club.

Held on Sunday’s final round (Jan. 25), Kids’ Day presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital will feature the annual TGA Premier Junior Golf Clinic presented by PowerBilt, an obstacle course from Next Level Fitness, a 10-percent discount for kids on select merchandise in the official Humana Challenge Merchandise Shop in Bob Hope Square, face painting and balloon figures, The Living Desert’s Wild Life on Wheels program, interactive activities from the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert and music from Shannon Tanner.

“We are honored to join with the 2015 Humana Challenge for the first time and sponsor Kids’ Day presented by Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital’,” said Kerry Heinrich, the CEO and administrator for Loma Linda University Medical Center & Children’s Hospital. “We are the Children’s Hospital for the Coachella Valley and we value our partnerships with the desert communities.

“As the region’s only Level I trauma center, more than 9,000 of the Coachella Valley’s critically ill and injured children are referred to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital for life-saving care each year. We are grateful to reflect that important relationship through our support of the Humana Challenge.”

Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is no stranger to golf. It was the charitable beneficiary for the Web.com Tour’s Mark Christopher Charity Classic until that event’s last tournament in 2007. It also plays host to several charity golf tournaments in the Inland Empire.

“This is a natural partnership on a day full of family-oriented activities that we take a great deal of pride in putting on for those looking for interesting and fun things to do together,” Humana Challenge Executive Director/CEO Bob Marra said. “Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital is literally a life-saving facility for the children of the Coachella Valley, and their partnership allows us to make the tournament very appealing and affordable for parents and their kids.”

Perhaps the best benefit being underwritten by the sponsorship is that children 15 and under will be admitted free to the Humana Challenge on Kids’ Day (Jan. 25) when accompanied by a paid adult. Information regarding tickets, Pro-Am golf tournament positions, hospitality packages and volunteer opportunities for the Humana Challenge can be sought at www.HumanaChallenge.com or by contacting the tournament office at 760-346-8184.
