(Rancho Mirage, CA) The new luxury retreat calls for approximately 191 acres of Ellison’s Porcupine Creek’s 230-acre estate in Rancho Mirage to be turned into an exclusive retreat to include up to 50 luxurious studio, single-bedroom, and multi-bedroom units.

In a 5-0 Vote Rancho Mirage City planning commission approved the final environmental impact report for the project, and ordinances, that put the development in the hands of the Rancho Mirage City Council for consideration.

Riverside County set to move to red tier Tuesday

According to city documents the new retreat will include a redesigned 18-hole golf course, modified main house, new restaurant, dining deck, upgraded spa complex, additional retreat-related facilities and up to 50 luxury units.

In 2011 Ellison purchased the property
Called Porcupine Creek for $42.9 million from Tim Blixseth. It was originally listed at $75 million.

The golf course trophy property was constructed between 2000 and 2004 by timber moguls Tim and Edra Blixseth, who divorced. The sale in 2011 was subject to Bankruptcy Court approval in Montana.

Ellison since his purchase has upgraded the estate to include an additional 16,000 square feet, with spa treatment rooms, a tennis pavilion, fitness center, and gatehouse with some new villas.

The desert property included a Mediterranean-style villa, a private 19-hole golf course (with that extra hole available for playoffs), a swimming pool and four guesthouses. The current estate has a driving range, clubhouse, lakes and views of the mountains and valley floors.

Porcupine Creek is located behind walls about a half-mile southwest of Highway 111, and west of the Magnesia Falls Cove neighborhood.

It can be viewed from above, along the popular Bump & Grind trail east of the private estate.
