La Quinta Museum Day of the Dead Cigar Box Exhibit
La Quinta Museum Day of the Dead Cigar Box Exhibit
By Kat Ballard
Boxes were created by local artists and residents using their own interpretations of the vibrant Dia de los Muertos holiday.
Boxes were created to honor loved ones who have passed on, or a celebration of historical events. Included in the exhibition are quilts also created by local artisans.
One special cigar box honored Gilda’s Club members who have lost their lives to cancer.
The exhibit runs through mid November. Understanding the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) cultural holiday, and it’s celebration of life, is an important part of the exhibit.
American Crafts Week culminates with Splendor in the Glass, an exhibit of fabulous glass creations. The exhibit is being hosted by the Jackalope Restaurant in Indio on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am – 5:00pm. Free admission and parking.
