Julian – Come for the Pies – Stay for the Adventures!

Julian – Come for the Pies – Stay for the Adventures!

By Françoise Rhodes / Producer & Host of Traveling With Françoise Television & Radio Shows

Hello to all of the day trippers and adventure seekers out there!  If you watched the video about my recent trip to Julian, California…there is not much more that I can say.  I had quite the unexpected adventure because almost any time I mentioned Julian to people prior my trip the most often used reply was “Make sure you have a piece of apple pie!”

I had the apple pie and it was delicious, but I also toured a historic gold mine, went back in time at the museum, learned how to throw a tomahawk, spent time at beautiful Lake Cuyamaca, was mesmerized with the wolves at the California Wolf Center, sampled beer and hard cider, strolled downtown and discovered shops that are for real shoppers, had a spa treatment, played trivia, and had a variety of meals that made my taste buds want more.

All of this in two days, and frankly that wasn’t enough time.  Located in the mountains between the Coachella Valley and San Diego, the scenery is gorgeous and the town has a wonderful, friendly charm.  Be sure to make your first stop the Town Hall which is also the visitor’s center.

Because this area is overflowing with history, don’t miss the Julian Pioneer Museum down the street from the Town Hall. Because there is so much to see and absorb in the museum give yourself plenty of time to wander around, then you’ll truly understand how special Julian is.

For some reason travelers forget that Julian is a year round destination, yes there is more than the apple picking season in the fall which is a very busy time for the town.  Holidays are special in Julian and there is a variety of lodging so take your pick.  I’m definitely going back to Julian, and I’m proud to say that now when I talk about Julian the most often used reply is “I didn’t know that and now I can’t wait to go back!”
