Humana Challenge week opened Saturday with a Well-Being Walk and Healthy Fun Fair that drew a huge crowd to the La Quinta (California) Civic Center campus. The opening day of wellness week included fitness activities and demonstrations, games and music to inspire families and people of all ages to get moving together and to learn how simple – and fun – it can be to live a healthier life.
The morning started with a Well-Being Walk led by La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans, who reminded the crowd that it was “all about health and wellness on a beautiful desert morning.” The walk around the Civic Center campus was designed to encourage everyone, no matter what age or fitness level, to get up and get moving.
Some people walked the half-mile loop once and some walked it multiple times. Some walked together as a family, some walked with their pets and others teamed up with friends. Many were smiling, demonstrating that exercise can be fun while boosting your health and happiness.
The day’s events also provided opportunities to give back to others. Participants were encouraged to download the free Charity Miles app, which tracks mileage while raising money for a national charity chosen by the user, who adds up the miles by walking, running or biking.
Humana this week is matching all contributions up to $50,000 to support local charities in the Coachella Valley.
The week of wellness continues Sunday morning with Humana Day at the Certified Farmers’ Market at the Square in Old Town La Quinta
