The celebration of culture at the zoo includes one free child admission for every paid adult on each Saturday and Sunday throughout and culminates in La Gran Fiesta on October 11th.
“The Living Desert is excited to be participating in Hispanic Heritage Month and we encourage everyone to come be a part of the festivities,” said Allen Monroe, President/CEO of The Living Desert.
“The zoo is home to several animals of Hispanic origin and we look forward to the opportunity to educate the public and celebrate with a day of culture at La Gran Fiesta.”
Visitors are invited to attend La Gran Fiesta on October 11th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The big party is free with paid admission.
Party-goers will enjoy musical entertainment from Mariachi groups to youth Folklorico dancers, dance lessons, arts and crafts, as well as authentic Mexican cuisine including tacos and churros.
[2]In addition, there will be animal keeper chats relating to the Mexican wolf, el lobo Mexicano; the jaguar; the caracara, sometimes called the Mexican Eagle and other animals important in Hispanic culture.
Scavenger hunts and a variety of games and giveaways will also be highlights of the day’s celebrations.
The Living Desert is open daily June 1 to September 30 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and October 1 to May 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
