FIREBIRDS’ FALL TO ROADRUNNERS 4-3

Must Win Game Three Takes Place This Sunday at Acrisure Arena
PALM DESERT, CA (April 21, 2023) – The Coachella Valley Firebirds (@Firebirds), proud affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken), fell to the Tucson Roadrunners in game two of the best-of-three series on Friday night by the final score of 4-3. With Tucson tying the series, the two teams will now play in a win-or-go-home game three Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Arena.

The Roadrunners exploded with a three-goal first period thanks to goals by Colin Theisen, Mike Carcone (PP), and Milos Kelemen. The Firebirds got one back in the second period on a powerplay goal by Jimmy Schuldt after a faceoff win by Alexander True. The goal was Schuldt’s second career postseason goal and came just 1:42 into the middle frame. Tucson responded just a minute later to regain their three-goal lead on Carcone’s second of the game.

Coachella Valley netted two goals in the third period, one from Tye Kartye on the powerplay at 10:01 and the other from Jeremy McKenna at 17:23. Netminder Joey Daccord went to the bench for the extra-attacker, but the Firebirds could not find the equalizer.
Daccord made 22 saves in the Firebirds’ defeat while Tucson goaltender Ivan Prosvetov made 35 stops. Coachella Valley’s powerplay finished 2-for-7 and the penalty kill went 1-for-2.
