THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4:45 AM PDT FOR SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTIES…
At 1231 AM PDT, law enforcement reported flooding on Interstate 10 nine miles east of Coachella. The water covering the road was 12 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep.
Another section of the interstate a few miles to the east was covered in water and rocks.
Radar rainfall estimates showed over an inch of rain fell in thisarea in one hour.
The heavy rain has moved east toward the Cottonwood Visitor Center, but more areas of heavy rain over Desert Shores and Salton City were moving north into the southern sections
of the Coachella Valley.
Ligher rain was falling north of Indio in the northern sections of the Valley.
... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 445 am PDT for San Bernardino and Riverside counties... At 150 am PDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavyrain across the warned area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. Radar indicated that some of the heaviest rain over the past hour was located from the Cottonwood visitor's center southwest to the Salton Sea. Locally heavy rains will continue in the warned area into the early morning hours. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Chiriaco Summit, Cottonwood visitor and lost horse-Keys Village. This includes CA Interstate 10 between mile markers 74 and 97. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
