Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus will host its sixth annual Environmental and Sustainability Expo on Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8.

Keynote speaker, Stuart Sumida, a professor of biology at CSUSB, will speak at the Indian Wells Theater on May 7. His topic will be: “From Art and Entertainment to the Environment – Why Science Matters”. A reception will take place at 5 p.m., followed by Sumida’s presentation at 5:30 p.m.

To attend, send an RSVP to Jesse Neimeyer-Romero at jneimeye@csusb.edu or call (760) 341-2883, ext. 78120.

Representatives from local green industries, including Southern California Gas Company, Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, Coachella Valley Water District, CV Link, Burrtec Waste and Recycling Services, and Green for Life will be on hand to encourage students to learn more about working in green science fields.

Students also will be able to participate in interactive presentations by The Living Desert, Coachella Valley Water District and Desert Eco Tours.

The guest speaker will be David Polcyn, professor of biology at CSUSB. His topic will be: “Water, Water, Everywhere. Not a Drop to Drink”.

Tours of the campus’s Palm Desert Health Sciences Building, which is Gold LEED certified, will take place during the presentation period.

Students from the Palm Springs Unified School District will also screen their top environment-related digital films (DigiComs) at both events.

The Environmental and Sustainability Expo is an annual event. This year’s sponsors include Coachella Valley Water District, Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company.
