California’s Newsom: Restaurants, bars, movie theaters must close again in 19 California counties for 3 weeks

Effective immediately, business sectors in 19 counties across the state must close indoor operations “due to the risk of spread.”

Several business sectors in Riverside County have been mandated by Gov. Gavin Newsom to move their operations outdoors or shut down.

They include:

Restaurants

Wineries and tasting rooms

Movie theaters

Family entertainment centers (for examples: bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades)

Zoos and museums

Cardrooms

Bars are ordered to completely close, even if they are operating outside.

The closures will remain in place for “at least three weeks,” Newsom said.

Restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos and museums, and card rooms can remain open but cannot serve customers indoors, the governor announced Wednesday. For businesses that can’t move services outside, they must temporarily close, according to the governor.

Among the activities NOT on the governor’s closure list:

Churches, gyms, retail stores, nail and hair salons.

Most State beaches will be open if the local city also allows their beaches to open over the weekend, but parking lots in Southern California and the Bay Area will be closed.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday ordered tougher restrictions for much of the state, requiring 19 counties, including Riverside County, experiencing increased spread of coronavirus to halt visits to indoor restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, entertainment centers, movie theaters, zoos, museums and card rooms.

The governor is imposing the restrictions on indoor activities in advance of the July 4 holiday weekend.

Newsom is also recommending the cancellation of all fireworks shows on the Fourth of July in the affected counties, and is urging all Californians to rethink having large get-togethers with friends and neighbors to celebrate the holiday.

“This doesn’t mean restaurants are shut down,” Newsom said. “It means that we’re trying to take the activities, as many activities as we can — these mixed activities, these concentrated activities — and move them outdoors, which is a way of mitigating the spread of this virus.”

The 19 counties singled out for being on the “county monitoring list” for three consecutive days include:

Contra Costa

Fresno

Glenn

Imperial

Kern

Kings

Los Angeles

Merced

Orange

Riverside

Sacramento

San Bernardino

San Joaquin

Santa Barbara

Santa Clara

Solano

Stanislaus

Tulare

Ventura

Newsom said that the population from these counties represents more than 70 percent of the state’s overall population.
