California Issues Curfew, Statewide

California Sets Statewide Curfews affecting over 90% of the state’s population. Starting Saturday from 10 p.m – 5 a.m. daily for a minimum of 30 days unless going to work or running critical errands.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday announced a curfew limiting the nighttime movements of more than 90% of Californians.

The order goes into effect 10 p.m. Saturday and will last until at least 5 a.m. Dec. 21. It applies to counties in the purple tier — or 41 of the state’s 58 counties. That includes all Bay Area counties except San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin.

Most businesses and restaurants and bars must close earlier to allow people to get home by 9:59p.

Roughly 94% of Californians — 37 million people — live in counties that are in the purple tier, which has forced many businesses in those communities to suspend or severely restrict the number of customers allowed indoors.

It is not a total “lockdown” officials suggest because businesses can operate at Tier 1 during non curfew hours.

Along with the limited stay-at-home order, California has also issued a travel advisory asking people to avoid non-essential out-of-state travel and to quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country. Masks are currently required to be worn by individuals whenever they are outside their homes, with limited exceptions.
