The biggest quake in the swarm was felt across Imperial County, in San Diego and in parts of the Inland Empire. The U.S. Geological Survey said some people as far away as Los Angeles felt it.

The quake appears to be along the Westmorland fault.

The magnitude 5.3 earthquake was reported at 10:55 a.m. Pacific time nine miles from Brawley.

There have been scores of aftershocks, including several measuring 4.0 and greater.

As of 12:17 p.m., the swarm had included 24 quakes with magnitudes greater than 3.0. The main fault appears to be the Westmoreland fault, which is not long enough for a quake much bigger than a magnitude 5.8, we are told!
