2021 BNP PARIBAS OPEN EXPANDS MEN’S EVENT

Indian Wells, CA., August 9, 2021 – The BNP PARIBAS OPEN, a combined mandatory ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event, announced the expansion of its men’s event from one week to two weeks.

While the first-ever fall edition of the BNP Paribas Open was slated to feature a women’s event with 96-player singles draw and 32-team doubles draw, the Tournament Director Tommy Haas announced today that the men’s event has now been expanded from one to two weeks to match the women’s field size.

The tournament is slated to be held October 4 – 17, 2021 at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.

Located 15 miles Southeast of Palm Springs in the resort community of Indian Wells, CA.

The Indian Wells Tennis Gardens is one of the world’s most revered and critically-acclaimed sports and entertainment venues. The state-of-the-art facility is a year-round tennis club that is open to the public, and also plays host to incredible live music performances and diverse sporting events – including the world’s largest combined men’s and women’s tennis tournament – the BNP Paribas Open.

Dominic Thiem is the 2019 BNP Paribas Open men’s champion. Thiem battled it out with G.O.A.T., Roger Federer, who was looking for his 101st title.It is the second year in a row that Federer has taken second place in Indian Wells.

VACCINATIONS WILL BE REQUIRED

BNP Paribas Open will require all fans, staff, sponsors, media, and vendors to show valid proof of full vaccination in order to enter the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the tournament.

In addition, depending on the COVID-19 conditions at the time of the tournament, additional testing as well as mask mandates in certain seating areas may be required by the Riverside County health department and the state of California.

The guidelines for the players are governed by the protocols established by their respective governing bodies, the WTA and ATP Tours.
