So. Cal. Born, Leroy Powell to play at Stagecoach!!

Whiskey Wolves Of The West – Leroy’s Newest Project!

As a songwriter, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Leroy Powell’s resume reads like a who’s who of country music and southern rock.

Born in Redlands, CA, Leroy learned to play guitar on a steady diet of classic rock, blues, and classic country. After playing in several combos, Leroy got his first taste of success when he joined Shooter Jennings. He not only played guitar in this band, but also contributed his arranging and songwriting skills. He penned the live favorite, Busted in Baylor County, a classic outlaw country narrative with a nod to Black Sabbath.

After several years of touring and recording with Shooter, Leroy departed the band to focus on his own venture, Leroy Powell & the Messengers. The Messengers went through many shows and members producing several records in the process. Leroy moved to Nashville, and trimmed the Messengers to a power trio. What ensued from this were two records, Atlantis and The Snowblind Moonshine Deathride, records as heavy as their titles. Eclectic mixes of ZZ Top and 70′s heavy metal, country with a heavy dose of psychedilia and grindhouse movie mania. Once again Leroy hit the the road playing sheds and opening for Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow in the the Summer of 2011.  After returning from tour, he recorded the record, “Life and Death” a new sound, a diverse brand of country music that appealed to purists as well as fans of contemporary country.

2016 marks a new chapter in Powell’s already impressive career.  His newest project Whiskey Wolves Of The West have recorded one of the most honest and pure records of his career.  Their debut album “Driftin’On” is scheduled for release May 1st 2016.  Powell and co-frontman Tim Jones will be playing the opening of the 2016 Stagecoach Festival.
