They produce 2 large Classic Car Auctions per year here in Palm Springs. The auctions are open to the general public and dealers are also welcome. Each event features 500-600 Classic & Exotic cars, trucks and motorcycles. The events are held in February & November each year. The venue is The Spa Resort Casino in downtown Palm Springs, just steps away from many resorts, shopping and fine dining. They also run a very busy year round classic car showroom here in the heart of downtown Palm Springs 244 North Indian Canyon Drive with many classics for sale on a daily basis. Back in 1981, Keith McCormick had already become a successful entrepreneur in his native United Kingdom, but he longed to realize a dream to move to Palm Springs, California and devote his time entirely to his family...and his cars. In 1985, Keith hosted his very first exotic car auction. A modest affair, by today's standards, but one that would start a tradition. Today, Keith's relentless dedication to excellence and integrity has produced one of the most prestigious, respected, and successful car auctions in America. The last auction held in November was McCormick’s 57th Palm Springs Car Auction and shattered all previous sales records, grossing $7.7 million in the Nov. 21-23 auction, the highest in the company’s 28-year history. Attendance also broke the record, said Keith McCormick, who said 428 cars were sold during the three-day event. “Counting Cars,” the TV series on the History Channel, filmed part of the auction with star Danny Koker bidding on cars. Koker’s father, also named Danny, purchased several exotic cars in previous auctions years ago, including the flatbed truck used by his son on the TV show today. Another high point of last year's auction was the appearance of Henrik Fisker, legendary auto designer of the Aston Martin DB9 and the BMW Z8 and other cars. He drove his own personal speedster, a highly modified 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado, through the auction tent. It sold for $30,450. Other notable cars included a 2005 Mercedes SLR McLaren, which sold for $153,300; a 1956 Buick Road Master convertible, $76,125; a 1958 Mercedes 190sl roadster, $74,025, a 1956 Chevrolet BelAir convertible, $62,475; and a 1956 Volkswagen oval window Beetle, $25,200. Once this year's 58th Auction totals come in we will report them here on CoachellaValley.com
